Appearance: Mountain reedbucks have a sleek and elegant appearance with a slender body and long legs. They have a coat that varies in color from pale yellow to sandy brown, with a lighter underbelly. Their fur is coarse and shaggy, with a distinctive white patch on their throat and underparts. Mountain reedbucks have large, rounded ears and a short, bushy tail. Both males and females have straight, ridged horns that curve slightly backward, although those of males are typically larger and more robust.

Size: Mountain reedbucks are medium-sized antelopes, with males (rams) being slightly larger than females (ewes). On average, males stand around 70 to 85 centimeters (28 to 33 inches) tall at the shoulder and weigh between 35 to 45 kilograms (77 to 99 pounds). Females are slightly smaller, standing around 65 to 80 centimeters (26 to 31 inches) tall and weighing between 25 to 35 kilograms (55 to 77 pounds).

Habitat: As their name suggests, mountain reedbucks are typically found in hilly and mountainous habitats, including grasslands, rocky slopes, and montane grasslands. They prefer areas with tall grasses and dense vegetation where they can find cover and concealment from predators. Mountain reedbucks are also known to inhabit marshy areas and wetlands adjacent to their preferred habitats.

Behavior: Mountain reedbucks are diurnal animals, being most active during the early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are cooler. They are primarily grazers, feeding on a variety of grasses, herbs, and shrubs found in their habitat. Mountain reedbucks are generally solitary or found in small groups consisting of a single male and several females. They are territorial animals and will defend their territories from intruders, using vocalizations and displays to assert dominance.

Reproduction: Breeding among mountain reedbucks typically occurs throughout the year, although peak mating seasons may vary depending on environmental conditions. After a gestation period of around six to seven months, females give birth to a single offspring, known as a lamb. The lamb is able to stand and walk shortly after birth and remains close to its mother for protection and nourishment during its early days. Female mountain reedbucks are attentive mothers and will nurse and care for their offspring until they are old enough to fend for themselves.
